Writer Naman Rajendra, who has written the blockbuster audio series 'Insta Empire' shared his fascinating journey from writing for TV to crafting captivating audio series for Pocket FM. He opened up about the challenges he faced along the way, his incredible family support during tough times, and the inspiration that keeps him going.

Q1: Can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into writing?

A: I hail from Pali, Rajasthan. I started my journey in the world of writing quite early. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mass Media and Communication, and I also pursued a diploma in screenwriting. I began my professional career at the age of 18 as an assistant editor covering the crime beat as a crime journalist.  But my passion for writing led me to explore radio. I worked as an intern and later as a radio jockey at a popular radio channel in Jaipur. After that, I tried my hand at theatre as a scriptwriter and was associated with Prithvi Theatres. This gave me valuable experience.

Q2: You also have a background in theatre. How did that influence your writing career?

A: Theater was an exciting phase in my life. I explored theatre as a scriptwriter and had the chance to be associated with Prithvi Theatres. This experience broadened my horizons and taught me the importance of storytelling. It eventually led me to shift my focus towards writing.

Q3: When did you decide to pursue writing as a full-time profession, and what challenges did you face initially?

A: Writing has always been my passion. I made the decision to pursue professional writing in 2017 after gaining experience through my diploma in screenwriting. Moving to Mumbai was a big step. I faced the challenge of not having many industry contacts, but I managed to learn about fiction writing for TV through projects provided by Anand Rathod. It was tough in the beginning, but I persevered. The experience motivated me to take the leap and pursue professional writing.

Q4: How did you find your way to Pocket FM, and can you tell us about your journey with the platform?

A: I joined Pocket FM in December 2021 and underwent test show trials. By January 2022, I secured an individual audio series to write for. The journey at Pocket FM has been incredibly engaging, and I'm thrilled to be part of this platform.

Q5: Could you tell us about the audio series you're currently working on at Pocket FM?

A: Absolutely! I'm currently working on my third audio series with Pocket FM. It's been an exciting journey. The audio series I'm working on now is "Insta Empire." It's a captivating romantic drama that focuses on the journey of the hero and heroine's relationship. I've created three versions of this series, each with its unique twists and turns.

Q6: Can you share your experience writing for audio series as compared to traditional TV writing?

A: Writing for audio series is quite distinct from TV writing. In audio series, you need to craft scripts that engage listeners' imaginations without visuals. It's all about using words to create vivid images in the listener's mind. In TV, you have the advantage of visuals, but in audio, it's all about the power of storytelling through sound.

Q7: You mentioned that you faced financial struggles during your journey. How did your family support you during these challenging times?

A: My family has been my pillar of strength. They supported me during times of financial struggle, and their unwavering belief in my abilities kept me going. Their support and encouragement played a crucial role in my journey as a writer.

Q8: What advice would you give to aspiring writers who are considering a career in the entertainment industry?

A: Patience is key in a writing career. It can be challenging, with an unstable income at times. Building industry contacts and gaining experience may take time. But if you're passionate and persistent, you'll find your way. Don't be afraid to take on unpaid work initially to gain valuable experience.
