The current storyline in &TV’s Ek Mahanayak – Dr B.R. Ambedkar focuses on an important social issue of Women’s Empowerment where the issue of Domestic Violence was presented previously. Both Bhimrao (Atharva) and Ramabai (Narayani Mahesh Varne) helped the victim to understand her rights and demand rightful compensation for being treated badly. And now, the upcoming storyline will showcase another core aspect of Widow Remarriage. The widow in question will be Narrotam Joshi’s real sister, whose husband passes away. And how her brother-in-law offers to marry her, causing her parents and in-laws to banish her. Bhimrao and Ramabai will take a stand against society to help the widow by enlightening her about her rights and subsequently getting married to her brother-in-law.
Atharva, essaying Young Bhimrao’s character, says, “Dr B.R. Ambedkar was one of the biggest supporters of women's empowerment and paved the way for women's emancipation. He strongly supported women's rights in India and created several laws to defend and advance women's rights. In 1920, Babasaheb banned funerary practices related to widows. And later, he represented "The Hindu Code Bill", which was the declaration of women’s rights for property, order of succession to the property, maintenance, marriage, divorce, adoption, minority, and guardianship.”. Adding further, Narayani Mahesh Varne, essaying Ramabai’s role, says, “Quoting one of Babasaheb’s famous quotes, ‘Unity is meaningless without the accompaniment of women. Education is fruitless without educated women and agitation is incomplete without the strength of women’. Dr Ambedkar was instrumental in furthering women’s rights. In earlier times, women were victimized and faced several social issues like domestic violence, widow’s exploitation, widow’s remarriage, etc. Babasaheb not only fought against such practices and enlightened women on their rights but also made provisions in the Indian Constitution for women to be treated equally. His provision of equality to women applied to all streams, be it education, employment, or social and economic rights Thanks to Babasaheb’s legislative reforms, women are not only aware of their rights but also self-reliant today.”
