National, 21st March’22: PVR Cinemas, the country’s largest film exhibition company is celebrating International Day of Forests in partnership with Nurturing Green, the first organization in India to introduce and promote the concept of Green Gifting – 'Gift a Plant'.
To
celebrate the growing percentage of eco-conscious consumers, PVR will be gratifying
movie buffs with a complimentary seed packet by Nurturing Green to plant a tree
on purchase of refreshments worth
Rs. 600 and above starting from 21st March - 28th March’22. Ten cinema
properties across Delhi and Gurugram will be a part of this noble offer.
Becoming consciousness of the fact that over 100 million patrons
visit its cinemas and has the potential to generate huge amount of waste, it
has responded by eliminating single use
plastic in the packaging of all its F&B products and replaced it with wooden
cutlery, PLA, paper and sugarcane bagasse products. Additionally, plastic
straws have been replaced by biodegradable vegetable-based plastic successfully
eliminating 13.5 million single use straws and 53,000 kgs of single-use plastic annually from the system.
Expressing contentment on the exclusive partnership, Mr. Gautam Dutta, CEO,
PVR Limited said, “PVR is proud to
partner with a passionate organization like Nurturing Greens to help spread the
word around on the need for environmental protection and conservation. As an
organization, we are constantly striving to give our best to society and today
with this initiative, the broader
goal is to contribute towards planting at least 10,000 trees by distributing
10,000 packets of seeds. It is a paradigm shift in thinking but we believe
we as individuals have a major role to play to make the people around us
environmentally conscious.
PVR has taken a host of sustainability practices into
consideration as an endeavour to contribute towards the protection of the
environment. This includes installation of drinking water
fountains at its cinemas reducing the usage of plastic bottles, paperless
ticketing system to curb the consumption of paper where tickets and invoices
are sent digitally to registered mobile numbers of customers. While its double-sided
printer default setting at the workplace has reduced paper consumption by half,
waste printing paper is recycled into making useful
products. PVR has also been able to reduce water
consumption by 78% by installing water flow restrictors in washroom taps at its
cinemas.
Mr.
Annu Grover, Founder & CEO, Nurturing Green said, “Nurturing
Green does not believe in only selling plants. We believe that every time you
buy a plant, you take home a life and this new life needs to be nurtured for it
to thrive. We have been successful in
making homes greener, nurturing plants and making gifting more meaningful. We
are happy to partner with PVR in their noble initiative in sensitizing citizens
to the growing global issue of climate change and bring them closer to nature.”
